Snake Mural Lets Viewers Send Wishes, Artist Hold onto Chinese Heritage
Sampan, February 2025

To celebrate Lunar New Year and 2025’s Year of the Snake, Pao Arts Center was interested in taking a fresh approach to their gallery space by organizing their first-ever fundraising art exhibit, Serpentine Celebrations, and facilitating a temporary, community-interactive mural to wind its walls. Invited by the admin team, I designed and hand painted a 50-ft long, family-friendly snake inspired by the traditional art of Chinese paper cutting. During Pao’s Lunar New Year Celebration and Year of the Snake Party, I facilitated a drop-in activity in which visitors were encouraged to embellish the mural with paper scales in which they wrote and drew their wishes for the new year.
